Several UK electric vehicle chargepoint grants changed on 1 April 2026. This guide covers the five routes currently listed by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) as funded until 31 March 2027. What changed from 1 April 2026?

OZEV extended five home and workplace schemes until 31 March 2027. The maximum grant for the flats and renters grant, residential landlord chargepoint grant, households with on-street parking grant and Workplace Charging Scheme is now £500 per socket. The separate state-funded education scheme offers 75% of eligible purchase and installation costs, capped at £2,000 per socket.

Renters and flat owners

This route is for an eligible renter, or someone who owns and lives in a flat, with private off-street parking and an eligible vehicle. It is not available to an owner-occupier living in a house unless that house has been converted into flats and they occupy one of those flats.

How to check and apply

  1. Confirm that your property, parking arrangement and vehicle meet the official eligibility rules.
  2. Collect proof of your right to use the parking space and any required landlord, freeholder or other permissions.
  3. Use the official guidance to start the customer application.
  4. Wait for OZEV to confirm eligibility before the chargepoint is installed.
  5. Use an OZEV-authorised installer and an eligible chargepoint; the installer completes the claim and required photographic evidence.

Households with on-street parking

This separate route may provide up to £500 for an eligible household that has only on-street parking and is installing a permanent cross-pavement charging solution, such as a charging gully. Temporary cable covers or mats do not meet the stated requirement. Local highways permission and any required planning permission must be addressed before installation.

How to check and apply

  1. Confirm that you own or rent the home, do not have private off-street parking and are responsible for an eligible vehicle.
  2. Check that a permanent cross-pavement solution is feasible at the property.
  3. Obtain permission from the local highways authority and check whether planning permission is required.
  4. Apply before installing anything; this grant cannot be backdated.
  5. After approval, use the official process and an eligible installer for the chargepoint and cross-pavement solution.

Residential landlords

Eligible UK residential landlords can receive 75% of chargepoint purchase and installation costs, capped at £500 per socket and 200 sockets per year. For organisations under common control, the 200-socket annual limit applies to the group as a whole.

How to check and apply

  1. Check that the applicant, property and parking spaces satisfy the official landlord rules.
  2. Confirm the annual allocation available to the landlord or group under common control.
  3. Start the customer application on the official service and provide the requested evidence.
  4. Wait for OZEV eligibility confirmation before installation.
  5. Use an OZEV-authorised installer and eligible equipment; the installer submits the claim evidence.

Workplace Charging Scheme

The Workplace Charging Scheme covers up to 75% of eligible purchase and installation costs, capped at £500 per socket and 40 sockets across all sites per applicant. It is open to qualifying businesses, charities, public-sector organisations and small accommodation businesses.

How the process works

  1. Check the organisation and site eligibility on the official grant page.
  2. The organisation submits the grant application.
  3. If approved, the applicant receives a voucher code.
  4. The applicant chooses an OZEV-authorised installer and gives the installer the voucher code.
  5. The installer completes the work and claims the grant within the official voucher and claim conditions.

State-funded education institutions

Eligible state-funded education institutions can receive 75% of chargepoint purchase and installation costs, capped at £2,000 per socket and 40 sockets across all sites, including previous Workplace Charging Scheme applications. Academy trusts can apply for up to 40 sockets for each institution within the trust. Vouchers awarded for applications submitted before 1 April 2026 can remain valid for up to £2,500 per socket, subject to their terms.

How to apply

  1. Confirm that the institution qualifies and identify its institution or SEED reference number.
  2. Choose an OZEV-authorised installer and confirm the proposed number of sockets and sites.
  3. Prepare the organisation, site and contact information listed on the official application page.
  4. Submit the official application and wait for the decision.
  5. Follow the voucher, installation and claim instructions supplied after approval.

Schemes that closed on 31 March 2026

The staff and fleets grant, commercial landlord chargepoint grant and residential landlord infrastructure grant closed to new customer applications on 31 March 2026. The official transition page contains the remaining claim and evidence timetable for applications made before closure.

Before spending money

  1. Choose the correct applicant route and read its current official eligibility page.
  2. Confirm the property, parking, vehicle, organisation and proposed equipment are eligible.
  3. Secure every required landlord, freeholder, highways or planning permission.
  4. Use an OZEV-authorised installer where the scheme requires one and obtain a written quote.
  5. Do not install before the relevant application or eligibility confirmation permits it.
  6. Keep the approval, voucher, invoice and any evidence required for the installer’s claim.
